Al Sharpton and Strom Thurmond Ancestors.

It matters not that some of Thurmond’s distant ancestors may have owned some of Sharpton’s distant ancestors. This is not Europe which dwells upon and is hobbled by its past. This is America, the land of new beginnings. This is Christianity, the life of new beginning. We are not liable for our parents’ debts. We are not responsible for our ancestors’ deeds. Each day is a new and fresh day. Each generation gets a fresh start. It will likely be emotionally played out in the media, and milked to link all whites to a guilty debt for all blacks. But it will set a bad precedent in the present day if the Thurmond’s are made to genuflect at the alter of racial apology for distant deeds of which they had not part. Such would just take us further down the path to a decaying European culture instead of a bold American culture.

Metric Humanism

Thoughts on the metric system vs. the imperial systems of measurement.

The imperial system is based on the size of the human being. The metric system is based on the size of the earth. More specifically, we needed a standard system of measurement. The was created based on the person. Later, the metric system was created, based on the circumference of the planet earth.

The following occurs to me. The imperial system makes mankind of importance, central to everything. As God would have it. It is based on our importance as unique human beings. The metric system makes mother earth the center of everything, and makes mankind a dependent variable within it. Earth first. Mankind second. Mankind is just something else on planet earth, not the point of it.

Accepting this system, seems another step to dethroning mankind as anything unique. It is another small step away from living our daily lives based on God having created us as something unique and special on earth, and into the camp of the earth as having been here and we just happened along like everything else by accident or evolution.

Advocates of the metric system use as one of their chief arguments that is it more natural and familiar to us because it is based on the earth. But that seems a specious argument. First, we cannot readily see the earth, or even its curvature before us. It also is not a perfect sphere, it is pear-shaped, and arbitrarily selecting a particular longitude around which to measure it and derive a meter, is neither natural or visibly familiar.

On the Expurgation of Christmas

The big stores sent memos to their employees directing them to say “Happy Holiday” because they did not want to offend anyone (i.e., lose any overly-sensitive customers). So I guess they are not worried about offending Christians by denying them their holiday. That tells me they think Christians are tolerant and will put up with abuse, and that others are not as tolerant. They take the Christians’ tolerance for granted.
